Radio CKJM releases new recording
CKJM, this community’s local radio station, recently released a new recording “Discover Chéticamp and Area, a Self-guided Tour.” The new CD now allows tourists to do a self-guided tour of the Acadian region of Chéticamp.The numerous visitors to this area can now use the album to find out more about the thriving Acadian culture and heritage
“The Acadian region of Chéticamp is an important tourist destination here in Cape Breton and we must continue to develop marketing tools for the area” says Angus LeFort, general manager of La Coopérative Radio-Chéticamp. Mr. LeFort adds that the new recording will allow visitors to discover Chéticamp and its surrounding areas.
By and large, Chéticamp offers its numerous visitors diverse activities and curiosities by the score. This CD allows tourists to obtain more information on Cape Breton Highlands National Park, Les Trois Pignons, Whale Cruises, l’Église Saint-Pierre, le Centre de la Mi-Carême, The Margaree River, the Gypsum Mine, the Windmill, the fishing industry, the cooperative mouvement, etc...“Tourists are invited to play this album in their vehicle so as to get a rich and unforgettable visit” says Angus LeFort.
“Discover Chéticamp and area”was recorded at Studio Marcel Doucet in Chéticamp. The project is a production of La Coopérative Radio-Chéticamp in cooperation with the Nova Scotia Department of Tourism, Culture and Heritage, the Office of Acadian Affairs and Heritage Canada. The producer of the project was Angus LeFort and the technician was Clarence Deveau. Research, editing and narration were done by Daniel Aucoin and Ginette Chiasson, radio hosts at CKJM.
The CD also offers musical inserts by artists from the Chéticamp area: Donny LeBlanc, Jeannine Chiasson, the Cormier Family, Gérard LeLièvre, Le Choeur du Havre, Robert Deveaux, Joseph LeFort, Maurice Poirier, André Aucoin, Wendell Roach, Entourage, Sylvia LeLièvre, Ronnie Bourgeoisand Marc Boudreau.
The album cover also carries a map of Chéticamp, St-Joseph-du-Moine and Margaree. Each selection on the CD corresponds to a number on the accompanying map. Visitors can choose the English CD or the French CD. The album is for sale at La Digue Craft & Souvenir Giftshop, Flora’s Giftshop, Charlie’s Country Music Store, Jean’s Gift Shop, Coopérative l’Artisanale, Cheticamp Co-op and Les Trois Pignons.
