The Chéticamp region has lost a well-known singer songwriter. Wendell Roach passed away last Sunday evening October 14. He was 51 years old.
Wendell was only 16 when he started singing. When he was 19, he started performing at the Chéticamp Royal Canadian Legion, where he performed for many years.
After being invited many times by his friend and musician Mel Aucoin, he finally took the big step in 1999 and recorded his first album called Counrty Souvenir Country. After the success of his first album, he went back into the studio for his second album in January 2000 to record his second album called Country Encore. He launched his third album, composed of only French songs, during the third Acadian World Congress in 2004. His fourth album was recorded in 2006 and he was expected in the studio for work on his fifth, the day after his tragic death.
Wendell Roach, was a great singer songwriter known as much for his French language songs as for his English ones. He was rightly proud of his albums which introduced him to so many because of the numerous DJs who played his music.
