Collection Chansons d'Acadie

Eleven collections of traditional Acadian folksongs

As mentioned by music and folklore experts, the popular French songs of Chéticamp are most precious and most interesting. These songs express in their own way the truly sympathetic soul of the Acadian people.

In 1942, two cousins, both members of the Congregation of the Capuchins, timoroulsy published a first collection of 25 songs from this repertory. Their goal was to have these beautiful songs live again in the hearts of the people of their region. Their success was greater than they had hoped. This publication was the occasion of a dazzling reawakening of the popular song in Chéticamp.

In 1944 and 1946 repectively, 2 other series of songs , carrying about 125 tunes, were published. The other 8 collections of traditional Acadian folksongs were published between 1972 and 1985.
